Uneven tone and sun damage

A clearer way to approach uneven tone.

You may be noticing scattered brown spots, patchy pigment, or a complexion that looks less even after years of sun exposure. The useful treatment depends on what the pigment is, where it sits, and how your skin is likely to respond.

What you may notice

  • Discrete brown or tan spots
  • Freckling or patchy areas of color
  • Uneven tone across the face, neck, chest, or hands
  • Dullness alongside visible pigment

What may influence it

Sun exposure, inflammation, hormones, skin type, medication, and previous treatment can all matter. Similar-looking pigmentation may require different care, and some pigment can worsen with heat, light, or irritation.

What assessment clarifies

A qualified provider reviews the pattern, your skin tone, relevant history, current products, previous response, and the season or event timeline. If a spot needs diagnosis rather than aesthetic treatment, the right next step is referral.

Possible pathways

Concerns orient. Treatments explain. Consultation decides.

Corrective Chemical Peel

May suit superficial uneven tone or dullness when a controlled exfoliation plan is appropriate.

From $225 · Recovery varies from minimal to about 7 days

IPL Photofacial

May be discussed for selected sun spots and diffuse pigment. IPL is not appropriate for every pigment type or skin tone.

From $375 · Mild redness and temporary darkening of targeted pigment may occur

Fractional Laser Resurfacing

May be considered when tone concerns overlap with more persistent texture or fine lines and a longer recovery window is acceptable.

From $550 · Approximately 3–7 days of visible recovery, depending on device and settings

Common questions

Can one treatment remove every spot?

No treatment can promise that. Different marks may have different causes and depths, and some recur or require ongoing sun protection and maintenance.

Is IPL the same as laser?

No. IPL uses a range of light wavelengths, while a laser uses a more specific wavelength. The distinction matters less than whether the particular device, settings, and provider are appropriate for you.

Should I book just before an event?

Plan conservatively. Pigment can temporarily darken, peel, or look more noticeable during recovery. Your consultation should account for the treatment type and your event date.
